It's much easier to stand in your doorway with a truck behind you that says "Verizon" and a nametag that says "Verizon" and fool somebody into letting you into their house and mess with their lines.

Caller ID spoofing is only really dangerous when companies use the ID as an authenticator; maybe as one of 5 different sets of data to check, it may help security, but it's nothing to rely upon.
