The ones who call America Online Inc. can't necessarily explain why Internet connections keep dropping. And those who file error reports with Microsoft Corp. don't always know why their computers inexplicably crash.

Well, guess what. It should come with it.
Companies will continue to make money from functional and yet insecure software for only so long. There is no authentication, no customer education or control to stop my own mom who has no knowledge about a basic computer from getting SpyWare from a browser exploit.
Software vendors, ISPs, and other IT companies will suffer, because until this is stopped, the common user will get infected and stop browsing anything except their email.
Better get started on securing your customers. Solve this problem without host based "look for the latest bad spyware" software that doesn't mitigate new problems and you will be rich. Those are just temporary solutions.
