Defendant: Microsoft source code sale was a setup
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2004-11-11

A 27-year-old Connecticut man facing felony economic espionage charges for allegedly selling a copy of Microsoft's leaked source code for $20 says he's being singled out only because the software giant and law enforcement officials can't find the people who stole the code in the first place.

Good grief. This is rediculous. I think the stupidity starts with him claiming he had the source code and putting that notice on his website. I think that the stupidity gets worse when a Microsoft agent contacts him.

Focus your attention on what is important and you will finally get what you want. Focus on the patheticness of small potatos like this guy... and we are going to be here all day.

If Microsoft wants to make it worth their while, they should let him go. They won't win this case. He can claim that he wasn't selling the code itself, but like many companies he was selling "a service of providing public code in an easy to download manner".
