Phil, think about what you just said. You are comparing virus attacks with intrusion attempts. This is fairly dumb. Microsoft OS's are way more vulnerable to viruses. All OS's are vulnerable to intrusion attempts, with Microsoft OS's simply taking a leading role in security holes.
