DirecTV dragnet snares innocent techies

In recent months the satellite TV giant has filed nearly 9,000 federal lawsuits against people who've purchased signal piracy devices. But some of those devices have legitimate uses, and innocent computer geeks are getting caught in the crackdown.

They got me in their dragnet as well. Not only do I not own a dish, but the excessive foliage in my backyard prevent me from even signing up if I wanted to.

I got a reader/writer and an emulator board to look at smart cards used for PKI systems at my work.

Now I'm on the hook for escalating ...
