U.S. regulators on Wednesday ruled tentatively in favor of an FBI and Justice Department proposal that would compel Internet broadband and VoIP providers to open their networks up to easy surveillance by law enforcement agencies.

All this really means to me is that I have to have a SPAN port on my switches available to Law Enforcement so that when they provide the necessary Title 3 order and associated search warrant, subpoena, etc. that they can plug a carnivore sniffer into the port and collect the appropriate traffic.
