So reverse your argument. The Feds were not russans, They commited a crime by Russain law. Therefor the Russans now have the right to break into American computers? And if they can con passwords out of people they now have the right to break into any network the passwords have access to? Does not sound like a good idea to me.
---------------------------------------------------
Okay let's reverse the argument. Joe Script Kiddie in San Francisco is breaking into computers in another country, causing damage. Our government does nothing to help the other country prosecute.
The other country tricks Joe into going overseas, and he's dumb enough to use a password that is basically the key to evidence to crimes that caused damage to the other country.
The other country's police log into the computer system using Joe's credentials, and nail him. I see no difference in this type of tactic than when the police offer a suspect a soda, and then match the fingerprints off the soda can to the crime scene. Nothing was "hacked", the police simply take advantage of the criminal's stupidity.
Were you in an uproar a few years back when the American kid was vandalizing automobiles in the Philliphines and he was smacked with a bamboo cane for his punishment? "Oh such cruel and unusual punishment, boo hoo", the kid got what he deserved under the laws of the land for which he was apprehended. These Russian script kiddies are getting what they deserved as well.
