I think that security alerts are vital for having a good level of security. It's essential because you'll know what are exactly your weak points and you can work in a workaround to make your systems reliable, or even temporarly turning off some systems until a patch is released. Also (in case of free software) the community can help solving the problems, and the administrators can evaluate products to find which was the most reliable, or even what product was better supported and had the fastest response to fix the problems. The Mozilla's "gecko" engine, as any software, will be more and more exposed as long its use increases, and its almost impossible to make a software "unbreakable". As a conclusion, the security annoncements must be maintained, because they help a lot security administrators "locking the doors" of the networks before the problem invades the nets.
