Yeah, but the concept - whether it is from Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, whoever - still has its vulnerabilities, which the article mentions. The author probably used .NET because it's not only from the biggest software company, but the one that's got the most chance to succeeed (somewhat) in the marketplace since Window is already so pervasive. God help us if it does.

Just replace .NET with "web services" or some other term and the article still makes sense.
