Microsoft's security policies are getting better every day, even as a new report slams open-source competitors as security nightmares. But the easy answers aren't always the right ones.

Oh please... yea some things are done easier in windows, others are not. As you already said yourself, some things have to be done in the registry and most people we have to go and figure that all out, just like some need to read man pages. Most of you people forget you have had to learn windows as well. Next to that, yes clicking find search for files or folders *.mp3 is easier than find ./ -iname "*.mp3" -print. However, I could also do -exec and loads of other commands, which the windows version -can't-.
Having the shell as backup?! Don't make me laugh, you can't compare a bicycle to an airplane. The DOS box just sux compared to the power of the shell in UNIX/Linux.
Windows and linux are like a Honda Civic and Ferrari. The ferrari is less comfortable, you break your arms switching gears, and let's not mention the force that wheel needs to be turned. The honda is really comfortable n such, but, don't every expect it to keep up with that ferrari.
Now unless you have loadsa money or are just plain stupid, you'll really have to obey the speed limit. As most people shouldn't go messing around with things they don't understand and don't care about learning, which is, if you ask me, why most people are bitching on linux. It's always they have to learn a lot, it takes longer yada yada yada. Just because the market is all hyped up n stuff and IBM and some others would like for M$ to go live in the sewers doesn't mean you -must- use it. So stop bitching and trying. It's a hacker OS made for hackers, although IBM n such would like you to believe otherwise. It was thus created for people who like getting down-n-dirty and having the power to read source-code and modify anything they like. If you're not one of these people, ignore the media-hype and stick to windows. You're not turning in your super comfortable car for just a ferrari either are you? Cause it would mean you would have to drive the ferrari all the time, and frankly, most people's backs won't last if they have to drive it that much.
That's just the plain truth if you ask me... People are making it more than it is (ie end-user ready...) because they want to push MS out of the market.
Oh and then there's always all this crap around it. Oh I had to change my BIOS just to be able to install linux and now I messed up my harddisk. They just forget to mention (or lack the knowledge), that if they had to reinstall windows, they had to change the BIOS as well or boot from flop, which linux can do too :/
Both OS'es have their advantages. If you're not ready to drive ferrari, then don't, and especially don't go driving it around because the whole world tells you it's so goddamn great. I've driven ferrari. It's like a 20 year old car without any features with a -shitload- of speed.
