Stick with the stero example for a second. Your neighbor is a nice enough guy, although perhaps you don't really know him or talk to him very regularly (if at all). He goes out of town for two weeks, and foolishly leaves his door unlocked. Some teenagers discover this, and throw a huge party in his home during his absence. After they all clear out, the last teen to leave doesn't bother to turn off the stereo, which is blaring incredibly loudly, not only offending you, but neighbors on every side of the house. His front door is standing wide open, the music is cranked, and you know he won't be back for 9 more days. Now here's where you have to pretend just a tiny bit... you call the authorities, and it turns out there's no law that says a stero can't blare out of an empty house with the door standing wide open. So, you're faced with nine more miserable days and nights.
Will you walk through his open door, turn off the stereo, write him a nice note about what's happened, and close and lock the door behind you?
