I'm not a very experienced Debian user but :
- unless you have a very specific configuration apt-get dist-upgrade is painless (at least for 2.2 to 3.0), exists for years and don't have any equivalent in other distributions.
- distribution upgrades in debian doesn't occur so frequently, nothing comparable to Redhat/Mandrake race.
- debian is not a commercial distribution, so you get much more than that you paid.
- security updates are frequently available before any other distribution and supported on more architectures than any other distribution (11).

in conclusion, when you talk about "commercial quality support", have you ever applied a M$ security patch without fearing the terrible blue screen of death ?
