If you want to kill bugs, then learn to program properly and treat it as the art form it is, not some slip-shod excuse of a mechanical engineering process/project.
The difference between scripting languages like Visual Basic, PERL and Python is that it does not require the programmer to understand his tools and the machine he works on - hence you make more mistakes faster than the C programmer that has to take all that in consideration. Efficiency? That all depends on how you define it: By lines of code, sure VB, PERL, et al win the day. Wan't to run small tight, fast and accurate? Learn to use a real language like C, not the wanna-be's like C++/C# or God forbid - Cobol...
I've seen more bad code written in "modern" languages than I've seen written in the "old" ones like C, Fortran, etc. Let's see, don't teach the basics, don't make them think, and give them kiddie toys to play with and pay them for it - There's your problem with security.
