Besides, you forgot the obvious conclusion of efficiency - more overall horsepower per MIP. We have a lust for squeezing as much service out of a server as possible.
IOW, you have your Win32 P4 running Win2k and IIS, and I'll watch my P4 w/ Apache handle much, much more traffic - traffic that would saturate an identical Win2k box... (or better yet, let's park Oracle on 'em both!) ...so, guess which one the PHB's in the board room are more willing to keep maintained?
