many people, armchair hackers if you will, begin with some trivial searches to find a "hacking tool", then do some *very* brief reading, and then - begin merrily generating the stats that you are discussing. By example, my 13 year old nephew discussing Sub7....??
What would the majority of those people tend to focus on ....? Windows. Why? - Microsoft Windows is a household name - APACHE certainly is not - regardless of red-herring discussions about which is better.
Realizing that stats can be manipulated to basically support any point, I still claim that the above explanation is the actual reason that MSFT garners more "hack" counts than APACHE.
Incidentally, this somewhat illustrates that there may be *some* not-so-good consequences to elevating the so-called "hacker" to an "elite" social status especially when we consider how the young respond toward role-models - all the while still accepting that there IS a case in claiming that true "hackers" are super-duper-hero's intersted in only improving everything for everyone, but anyway I digress here.
