Mr. Smith, I'm afraid your faith in peoples' lack of gullibility is not justified. I've been told of faculty members at a major university responing to a-v spam, only to discover that the businesses weren't even legitimate--they were con artists running short-lived Web sites from somewhere offshore, stealing credit card numbers.

As to the "disorder" motivating all this, it's really very simple: fear and greed.
