The Nowhere Men
George Smith, 2003-05-12

Unemployed virus writers take heart: the recording industry is hiring cyber miscreants to attack its own customers. And we thought you'd never amount to anything.

The Nowhere Men - NY Times - no sources 2003-05-13

The NY Times article quoted here does not name a single verifiable source. Is the author using the Gobbles hoax as the source? (I wrote to them, asking, and got no response.) Until there is some verifiable source for putting viruses in MP3s (which should be impossible, since MP3 has no executable content), I would laugh this off. The credibility of the NY Times has been damaged recently when someone finally noticed a reporter who made up what sounded like a good story oblivious to facts or sources. Until such time as independent verification is made of this story, I wouldn't believe it. It is, at best, hearsay.
