I have to disagree.
IT degrees and certs, while no indication of the bearer having any true IT skills, are the easiest way for HR departments to decide who gets called for an interview and who gets culled from the herd.
You may be a guru, a phenomenal old school hacker, and your IT skills may r0x0r, but if you don't get past HR, you don't get paid.
