Senator Orrin Hatch says he wants to destroy music swappers' computers, but what he really means is that kids today have no respect for their elders.

I for one wouldn't mind giving a dose of bad medicine to a cracker from say Russia or Pakistan who tries to break into my systems, on the grounds that since he does not recognize U.S. laws, I am hardly bound by the laws of his country either. Discourtesy for discourtesy.

On the other hand, if the cracker in question had spoofed his source address, I could very well end up attacking a totally innocent third party. Self control is probably the better value here.

Senator Orrin Hatch is a downright dangerous man as the ignorance he shows is mismatched with the power he wields. However, we owe his liberal counterpart Senator Boxer that piece of genius legislation known as DMCA or DCMA - As a liberal, this is doubling wounding to me. Senator Hatch cuts off my right arm, Senator Boxer cuts off my left arm, then each shakes hands, give each hugs and walks off in the sunset in teary eyed reconciliation while I practice flushing the toilet with my big toe. This is one bad fairy tale.

Bad legislation knows no ideology.
