I'm curious to see how this effects both of my jobs, inventory collection and pizza delivery. Obviously with the receiver limitations, it won't change the inventory business much right now, but down the road, it could significant change the business. Currently for Walmart we(I've worked for both RGIS and Washington Inventory Service), we manually scan the bar codes and in hardline merchandise, enter quantities. With RFIDs, we'd mearly walk down an aisle and collect all the signals. Much more efficient, which means a lot fewer of us specialists needed.
As to doing pizza delivery, imagine embedding these into money here in the US. Strap a receiver to your wrist and count the customer's money without touching it. Heck, throw in the modified guts of a calculator watch, and it'll even tell you the change. Hmmm, retailers and fast food restaraunts can save money by hiring dumber people now.
From where I sit, the future is going to be interesting.
