very interesting reply. i have to agree that RFID tags as they are are relatively harmless, though as someone else pointed out - the more a technology is used, the better it is developed. better, smaller RFID tags should be treated as an inevitability. That's why we have legislation. limiting range of RFID tranceivers is a good start.

as to the comment that a car manufacturer would use the combo of your jeans and tires as an identity, match it with your visa, and then sell that info to other companies; or maybe to some bad guy who wants to track your every movement... isn't that just the same as selling your description? it's a unique identifier that can only be used short range. what's the difference between these RFID fears and a physical description of you?

hey, mcdonald's - if a blonde guy, about 6'2", wearing jeans and driving a ford car, comes through the drive through, here's his credit card number.

and it seems like it's just as hard to track someone across the city via their RFID's as it would be to do so by their physical description. you either have to have someone tailing you with a tranceiver, or someone standing on every street corner watching everyone who goes by for the right RFID's.

get a grip, guys. all this does is add brand and serial numbers to your physical description.
