Can Microsoft End Spam?
Tim Mullen, 2003-06-30

Unwanted e-mail saps security budgets and wastes everyone's time. It's nice to see Bill Gates take some responsibility for stopping it.

All of these 'war against spam' articles are getting a bit interesting. I don't like spam and I wish that people would stop sending it. However, the guy posting that comment about 'e-mail' being free and open is completely accurate. Basically, if you don't want mail from certain parties, filter out everything but recognized mail.

Also, while we're at it, let's go ahead and start a war against corporate snail-spam. I, for one, am very tired of getting flyers and faxes from people that I have specifically told not to bother me any more. These are 'respectable' businesses using common business practices.

But wait, there's more...There are current pieces of legislation on the books that make allowances in most states for reimbursement for snail-spam. However, all of these require you to actually find the company sending out the information and stick it to them. So, using this argument, let's just remove all Internet anonymity and the problem will be solved, along with a host of other problems.

So, filter your mail or let's all staple completely valid, government mandated and controlled ID numbers across everything we send.

Just some thoughts for DISCUSSION, not meant to start flame wars or anything else.
