The current length of copyrights protection, which is the publisher's lifespan plus 75 years is totally unreasonable. Within 125 years, the US went from preserving the Union to winning thwo world wars plus the Cold War and become the planet's hyperpower. Within the last 25 years, the PRC went from failing Communist state to the world's factory floor. Who reads copyrighted books on Novell 2.2 these days?

The problem is that we have a Congress that allowed itself to be corrupted by special interests and basically legislated against the public good in this instance. And don't get me started on the concept of software patents!

I find it disgusting that RIAA wants the computer industry to do the work of protecting its sales. My attitude is that the RIAA are big boys: if they wan't to protect their goods, let them hire their own programmers and do their own work. The entertainment industry's issues are not our problem, should not be our problem, and probably many people in computer security would probably agree with me that we just don't care enough about these obnoxious bozos to make their problem our problem.
