I have over 40,000 systems across the globe and some are at the end of a 33K pipe.
We put the MS03-026 patch out. But we require users to autneitcate to the firewall when they go to the internet, and the patch broke authentication/authorization meaning we have to now allow uncrontolled access to the internet, MS won't won't provide a patch to fix the patch (sound familiar) and we're a gold customer.
Some may think that outbound auth is a little over board, but it prevents worms and spyware/adware from making unauthorized connections to the internet.
MS has a good marketing department. Just lile IE is free 0 cost, until you have to keep patching it, which puts you in a negative position as it costs more to maintain then acquire......
As long as we pay them the big $$$ without holding the responsible for poor coding, we'll continue to get junk.
