This is a specious argument. Very few of the patches to microsofts code are actually in the Kernel itself, which is what linux bigots insist on limiting the term OS to in re linux. The difference is, that Microsoft has geared it's system to a less Savvy user and therefore many components come up at system start automatically and unconfigurably. This is arguably a Bad Thing (tm) but that is what they did.
