Windows 98 was not considered a business-level OS... that was supposed to be Windows NT's job (NT 3.51 and 4.0 at the time.) Small businesses did use Win98, but that was out of cost-cutting and ignorance, rather than Microsoft's marketing efforts.

One would do well to compare apples to apples, yes?

While NT was still far behind in security at the time, it was light-years ahead of Win98.

As for Microsoft, err, 'appropriating' others' IP by means both fair and foul? Well, we knew that already :)
