Lost in Translation
Tim Mullen, 2003-09-22

We spend money, increase administration, and take away functionality. Is it any wonder that security people are so misunderstood?

IT _is_ a cost center for the suits - out of ignorance. I dimly recall a Jannet Reno's saying that her Mac it too complicated for her - she uses a pencil. Sure, a bunch of secretaries doing the job for her, as for countless C$O.

When the revolution will come, these guys will be the first against the wall (D. Adams). The trouble is, that we will be starving to death before the revolution, not to mention that after the revolution the very same cro/ap of C$O will get to the top. Worked on all the five continents - France, Russia (including the "perestroyka"), China, India, you name it.

As much as I hate to say it, we have a lot to learn from oppressive governments, lawyers, and health-care industry (medical personnel EXCLUDED). Lie, scare the citizens, and you'll be given the power.

As a viable option: educate your clients. Form a user community that respects your knowledge, not their ignorance.
