Citing a provision of the Patriot Act, the FBI is sending letters to journalists telling them to secretly prepare to turn over their notes, e-mails and sources to the bureau. Should we throw out the First Amendment to nail a hacker?

"So if you're quite finished shrieking like Chicken Little on a meth jag, and trying to milk the Patriot Act hysteria for all it's worth... can we get back to some actual security-related tech commentary? Thx in advance."
Although the article isn't tech related it is related to individual privacy, which ties into security. Our law isn't one that can be selective. For a law to be selective is to basically make things up as we go along. Although I see a variety of other issues stemming from this Ashcroftian justification to violating our rights, I think it is a good idea to document the twisted nazi path the current administration is taking.
Personally this appears a way for the FBI to admit it can't do its job without changing the law to reflect it's own agenda. If that's the case it might have the effect that this administration wants to so pervade. A moral Christian, Southern Baptist hell fire brimstone fist shaking God fearing, decorate school chain link fences with ?GOD BLESS AMERICA! All the while we declare war on terrorist and mock their twisted heathen beliefs!
Oh sorry, I forgot then hackers would start going to confessionals. That would promote Catholicism not Protestants. Hummmmmm...
You think maybe that Ashcroft LAW would then begin wiretaps on priests?
Maybe after thinking this through Bush will do another Texas Two Step in a public forum like he did the other night in front of the UN. I don't think I've ever seen anyone try to pull garbage out of thin air as much as Bush.
You know this hysteria was created by the Bush administration to get support for his vendetta to go to declare war. His mantra which seems to hypnotize his constituents, "We must violate basic personal rights to insure Freedom!"
I appologize for my own rant.
