Citing a provision of the Patriot Act, the FBI is sending letters to journalists telling them to secretly prepare to turn over their notes, e-mails and sources to the bureau. Should we throw out the First Amendment to nail a hacker?

The posting that you responded to does not mention the Bush administration or state that the writer is a Bush supporter. You have wrongly jumped to a conclusion that is not supported by the facts of the matter. That is unfortunate.
Such emotional, ideological rants as yours do not advance a reasoned discussion of the subject. Demonizing the Bush administration (or any administration or political party) is stupid and hurtful to civil discourse and the process of building a political consensus.
Comments that Democrats mollycoddle criminals and remarks that equate Republicans to Nazis are poisonous to the body politic. I think that the increasing trend of people (like you) to radicalize issues and make the most outrageous accusations against our leaders (of both parties) is gravely harmful to the peaceful resolution of our problems.
After all, zealots (such as yourself) cannot "deal with the devil". To do so would be heresy with regard to their radicalized ideology. So, when you transform (in your fevered mind) your political opposition into the devil, you cut off any possibility of civil discourse and peaceful resolution of your mutual problems. What a shame!
As to the original article, congratulations on an informative report on a worrisome situation Mr. Rasch. All freedom loving peole must be alert to thes kinds of attacks on our privacy and our liberty.
