Despite the well researched and written article, and the unquestioned credentials of the author I am compelled to add a footnote:

There is in place at this time in most U.S. states a SHIELD LAW that protects journalists from revealing thier sources.

The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States guarantees freedom of the press. The "Fourth Estate" is a primary pillar of our "democracy", if it indeed may be viewed as such by our founding fathers, should they be around to make the determination. I am confident they would at this point in our history.

I call upon all journalists to rise up to this latest challenge to our basic rights, not only as the individuals that bring the truth to the people, ("to enlighten and inform") but as the bedrock of our country. We must meet these assaults on our integrity and credibility forcefully. If for nothing else, we owe it to the brave individuals who have taken us into their confidence, knowing full well the ramifications of doing so.
