You missed the point: for a given vulnerability, even if the "dumb user" doesn't change, you have *fewer affected machines*.
Why? Because they aren't all running the same exact platform, and aren't neccessarily vulnerable to the same exploits.
The point is that it doesn't matter what the OS is, it's the fact that there is a monoculture that is causing the problem. To word it another was in case it's not clear: it isn't Windows that's the (sole) problem, it's the fact that everyone is running it.


I wonder if you even bothered to read the paper...
