You don't need to be an educator- you need to be *educatED*!! You use FUD like "mega-patch" and expound how 2003 has 9 advisories since its release. To blindly ignore the drove of patches released for *nix and other open source products is simply irresponsible. You MUST know that they far outnumber MS patches, which means that you are purposefully spreading misinformation. You lack intergrity, sir.
This MONTH alone, let alone since its release, Conectiva has released at least 8 advisories, part of over 16 Linux distro patches (Including NetBSD and SuSE) with a horde of other open product patches- and that is just THIS MONTH which is not even over. OpenSSH. OpenSSL. Sendmail. And even your referenced OpenOffice.
Highlighting Microsoft as the only software in need of patching to your ignorant users is irresponsible-- preaching to those of us here who all know better and calling yourself and educator is just plain stupid.
