True enough...the vast majority of folks out there have no clue what "secured computing" means. I would wager that they cannot explain the differences between security and privacy.

I appreciate the notion of teaching people to fish but if they don't know they're hungry they won't pay attention. Micro$oft has actually done us a favor in this regard, back handed though it may be. The various problems with MS operating systems can be EASILLY exploited(how's that for obvious?). When my family, friends, acquaintences call me to "look" at their computers, I always take my lab notebook and a small router with me. Why? So I can show them just how easy it is to gain access to their machines. Sometimes a simple port scan will do the trick. "I didn't know I had a webserver!" and "SubSeven? What's that?" are common questions after a short nmap run and after the explanation they are more than willing to listen...and closely.
