I know what you mean. We have recently been recieving spam from a particular ISP. I tracked it back to them, they asked me a million questions because they don't know who I am just like all of you do not know who I am. After sending them some tcpdump statistics showing that they were sending a spam a second (I had changed the mail server to drop the specific address that they were using) they thought that I might know what I was talking about and took care of the problem. That lasted for a day, and then it started happening again. Every other day for a week we have been having this problem. I would almost bet that all of this email is coming from some "zombie" in their network, but nothing is done to take care of the root cause. I periodically scan all users on my network and look for security flaws along with spyware. This is my network and that is part of my job. I think that all ISP's should have to do something like that. Maybe their should be an internet "driver's license" that works something like this: You take a test from the ISP that you are using and depending on the results they will filter traffic that can get to you or that you can send out. This problem will not just go away, and it will only get worse. Something definitely needs to be done. I do have a couple of friends that are computer literate and they ask me security questions all the time and I have no problems answering them. I don't like when people bring over their computer and expect me to fix it for free. I don't take my broken PS2 to somebody's house and expect them to fix it for free because they work on them and know how to fix it.-
