Well,

it sort-of-works for El-Al.
People would just have get used to the fact that they'd have to be at the airport 4-5h ago and be able to answer basic questions about their intented trip (where, who, why, when etc.).

Over-loading one's suitecase with all sorts of things would also be a bad idea, because you'd have to shuffle it back in at the airport ;-)
