Given the maintenance issues around election equipment, what's the likelihood that a voting machine will run out of tonor/ink or paper/cardstock during the polls?
What if the ink is too light or the print is smudged? Or for punch-out, what about incomplete punches leaving hanging or pregnant chads (I know - no worse than today, anyway, and maybe a sight better)?
Will the voter bother to verify the accuracy of the receipt? (Some will, some won't).
How will the paper receipts be tabulated for recount verification? Will that be audited as part of the voting machine certification? What will be the acceptable margin of error?
What if the paper receipts don't make it into the poll box? Some voters might take the receipts with them.
Just some thoughts - going to paper doesn't really solve everything. But it is a good start, as long as some of the issues get thought through.
