Hal Flynn, 2003-11-26

Linux vendors spend money building security bug fixes. How much longer will they give them away for free?

Open source in name only. Its like school cafeteria food. As long as its free or almost free you might eat it, but if they try to charge it you are going to go to a real restaraunt. Its what microsoft was banking on, Sooner or later the Linux companies were going to burn through thier IPO money and have to start charging for the product. IBM is a service company. They make money selling support. They will probably do ok with linux, HP also. It is in both of these companies interest to supply complex operating systems that require more outside expertise. Make no mistake though the only reason we are here talking about linux is because it is free. If it were being sold it would not be on enough servers or desktops to even warrant a mention.
