Ending the Free Lunch

Linux vendors spend money building security bug fixes. How much longer will they give them away for free?

There is a COST associated with "Ending the Free Lunch": IF you end the "Free Lunch" and you get ONE BAD security related problem -- say a virus -- and people have not patched their systems because they'd have to spend $$$ -- lots of $$$ -- to keep up with the security fixes, then the virus will spread. What a gift that would be to Bill Gates!!! Talk about FUD: M$ would have a FIELD DAY!!!

In the end, "Ending the Free Lunch" would cost the Linux Community MORE -- both in terms of acceptance, momentum, a GOOD PUBLICITY -- then to keep security patches FREE!!! This is clearly a case of being "Penny Wise and a Pound Foolish".

Either you are BLIND to the above fact... or you work for Microsoft (or maybe SCO) who has set out to spread FUD.
