Surprise, surprise, it's the maintainers of software products who deliver bug fixes. And for some reason, the author does not consider them members of the open source community. Hell knows why. The next thing is that he expects distributors to charge for the updates. But what if the software is GPLed? Can a distributor make a proprietary bug-fix for a GPLed product? I don't think that's easy, it would have to be a patch against the original product that is not derived from the GPLed sources. Why bother? This sentence proves the whole article is little more than stupid ranting: "It isn't hard to find places where those resources would be better spent, like the nagging problems in usability, interface design, and maturity that prevent most free software packages from seeing more widespread adoption."
