Linux vendors spend money building security bug fixes. How much longer will they give them away for free?

"Sooner or later the Linux companies were going to burn through thier IPO money and have to start charging for the product. IBM is a service company. They make money selling support. They will probably do ok with linux,"
Guess what.. Red Hat is primarily a service organization too. And they've been operating in the black for a while now.
"the only reason we are here talking about linux is because it is free. If it were being sold it would not be on enough servers or desktops to even warrant a mention."
Bzzzz. Wrong. Red Hat and others have been charging for Linux and Linux service for a while and lots of people are happily paying for it. We had no problem with paying a few hundred $ for Red Hat vs a few hundred for Windows 2000 server, btw.
One of our primary applications runs on Linux or Windows as the server (developed first for Windows server, btw.) Our choice of using Linux has nothing to do with "Free" but with the fact that everyone I talk to running on Windows in the app's user group is rebooting their server daily or at least weekly to keep things running correctly. (The group has about 20 member businesses with about 50/50 Windows/Linux.)
