Companies should protect consumer data better than Wells Fargo did, but in cleaning up its laptop data spill the bank blazed a trail worth following.

I am glad someone sees what Wells Fargo did as a good example. I think that people should know about the bad examples though. I am anonymous because this information could cost my job.

The contractor in question worked for more than one institution, and information from more than one was on the laptop. As yet, the others have not stepped forward and followed the law. How often does this happen do you think?

Because Wells Fargo has done the right thing, they have opened themselves up to lawsuits over the matter. Because other financial institutions ignore the law, they escape the cost.

It is nice that we are praising those that do what they should, but surely we should be concerned about those who are not.
