Better 100 guilty go free than a single innocent be punished. This is a basic tenet of United States judicial policy, and a cornerstone or our "innocent until proven guilty" philosophy.

"Kill them all and let the Gods fight over their souls" may look nice on a bumper-sticker or Tee shirt, but few would elect to live under that system given a choice.
