Mullen's arguments are pretty misguided. The problem isn't old software. I'm sure there are PLENTY of windows xp users who got this virus. I would bet that most of them were. This virus wasn't MS's fault (mostly), but old software has nothing to do with it. Why can't people just buy computers and not spend loads of money to maintain them? With basically every non-windows OS it's possible. My personal router/mail server is an old 486. Works fine. Doesn't need anymore power than that. It runs FreeBSD. I think this need to constantly update software and hardware that works fine is stupid. Why would I run a P4 w/ windows 2003 for my personal mail server that handles less than 100 email a day? Why should a public library have to upgrade 200mhz computers that are only used to browse the web? What Mullen doesn't get is 99% of the world doesn't care if they have the newest and greatest hardware and software. Most people I know who aren't in the industry have on average, about a 500mhz computer with 128mb of ram. Runs windows 98se just fine. So why should they have to upgrade to Windows XP and run slower?
