Did Republican staffers commit a crime by clicking on the "My Network Places" icon to access Democratic memos?

What I want to know is where the sanity is in the government. Come on people, any person who has any knowledge about computers can tell you that if you publish something to a public share then it is not a crime to find it or read it.

What really irks me is that this IS the government. Shouldn't they have people in these areas who are competent with computer systems? I am appalled that IF they have a systems administrator that this situation occured -- especially if they had knowledge of the authors' intent of these memos. If there is no administrator then where does my / our money go? Surely these politicians shouldn't be running their own computers and servers. The least they could do is hire somebody competent in such a versitile arena as government agencies & departments.

And yes, the ultimate conclusion is not stupidity, but rather ignorance. Do I want people representing me that are ignorant? No, not really.

Mark, your article is wrong to paint the picture otherwise and your last sentence should be removed. For writing articles for SecurityFocus, i am certainly appalled by this.
