Unfortunately you can maintain your car, and it can still break down. You can get new tires, and still have a blowout at 70 mph. XP out of the box doesn't enable the firewall, yet with sp2 its the default to enable it. Was the policy change maybe to do with the fact that it is too hard for a user to enable the firewall? You can still be hacked by a undisclosed vulnerability. Not just the white hat are finding these "flaws". Yes the security people are to blame because they are there. The users are to blame since they work so hard on being stupid, and yes Microsoft (any vendor) is to blame when they push something out the door that is not ready for release.
