Seriously, there's a thin red yet invisible line in there somewhere.
Not so far from that line, you find AV employees keeping in touch with less than reputable individuals, on IRC or somewhere else. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it allows them to follow various developments that would otherwise stay invisible until a much later stage.
Yet once they start interacting with that crowd, there start to be a real possibility of leak or collusion.
This is a far cry from claiming anything like it is indeed happening, but it seems like most of the pieces (means, motives and opportunities) are in place for it.
The last (and maybe only) defense against it ends up being the ethics of each individual employee.
