Ive been saying the same thing for years. I work as a Network Administrator, and the very first thing I do when configuring new machines (well windows boxes anyway) is to dump IE, and download Netscape and Netscape Mail.

I have yet to try Firefox but i have used Mozilla Thunderbird as an email client and it performs well.

In fact, Our policy states that Internet Explorer and Outlook / Outlook Express are forbidden to be installed on any pc on our network.

I feel bad for the mom's, dad's, grandmothers and grandfathers out there who are just getting onto the internet, most likely using Windows XP and IE6 to surf. The pop up's, intrusive software installs such as Gator, Precision Time, Date Manager etc. Its so annoying and time consuming / frustrating to close pop up after pop up.

Its pretty bad when you have to download third party utils like pop up stopper pro to block popups.

Regardless, very very well written article, I must say the author did his homework, and just didnt start bashing IE like the rest of us.

I will be forwarding this column to my staff, friends and family etc.

P.S - You hit the nail on the head when you said why is IE the most popular browser, its because Micro$oft has forced it down our throats.
