Jason Miller, 2004-07-01

The curse of complexity is the bane of every security administrator, so UNIX users take your pick: would you like BSD or Linux?

Everything is complex anyway 2004-07-12

Excuse me, that article was a shame.

If one knows well how to use one tool he can't blame others for preferring other tools. The complexity isn't the case here, it looks moore like personal preferences and the trust.

The graphical interface makes configuration and management more efficient by visualizing, selecting and grouping relevant option as well as enforcing relations between options. The graphical interface lets people to focus on the goal instead of spending time on learning how to use tools.

Of course people like that and one can't blame them for that.

However, in order the graphical interface could take the load of a person, somebody has to put an effort into it. And that must be done correctly, without rush.

The text based applications, tools and configuration are/were just one step in evolution.

One can also write faulty text-based configuration tools and applications. The complexity isn't the case -- everything about computers is complex -- everything around us is complex and gets more and more complex every day.

Quality is the case ...
... and the profit.

Neeme Reinmets

PS! For a flame: I tried the mentioned /usr/bin/calendar, it gave me some lines of text or headlines -- piece of junk I'd say, absolutely useless.
