Pioneer sold me a VHS recorder. Should they upgrade it to a CD player now because the standard has changed? I don't expect them to.
Microsoft sold you a product, an operating system for your computer. The fact that they upgrade it at all should make people around the world grateful. Instead, people complain because the upgrades are not released as rapidly as they expect, and they fix problems unforseen durning their development. It is not microsoft's responsibility to "secure the world-wide network" or "protect your information from yet-unborn threats". You get what you get when you buy it. If you don't like it, well, buy something else. If it does not do what it was advertised to do, take it back. But don't expect microsoft to be your own little pet big brother to watch over you while you compute, and tuck your precious mp3's into bed. That is YOUR job.
I don't expect Microsoft to protect me from hackers any more than I expect the steering wheel on my 74' Nova to protect me from a head-on collision. I got exactly what I paid for, no more no less. And I damn sure won't blame General Motors if someone steals my car.
