Microsoft should make SP2 available to all users and backport the changes to older operating systems, or they risk putting profits ahead of security yet again.

IT Security will allways be an issue, even if you eradicate the common hacker, there will still be large scale corporate espionage and 'professional' data collection. If you eradicate the common hacker, sad to say it, you will loose half of your testing grounds.
In the non-ideallic society that we live in, it is actually no bad thing that the software is being prompted to be hardened by many people who aren't being paid for it. Software security is something which has become important all over the place. It is likely that you have no awareness of the amount of government work in this area that occurs during times of war, many of the tools practices and general information which educates *anyone* in this feild comes from common hackers playing. As sad as it may be this is the truth; that is why honeynets are becoming popular.
